Frequently
Ask Questions
What
is Data Recovery?
Data recovery is
the process of rescuing valuable data from any type of media that
has been either physically or logically damaged. The term data recovery
can also be extended to database and file repair, all of which we
offer here at Laptop Data Recovery.
What
is the difference between a Physical and a Logical recovery?
A "Logical"
recovery is the term used when the drive functions fully and allows
access to the actual sectors containing the data. Some examples would
be a virus infection, accidental format or a dropped partition.
A "Physical"
repair of a hard drive is classified as any drive needing some type
of replacement parts or physical manipulation in order to recover
the data. These recoveries must be done in a clean room environment
and are much more difficult. Some examples would be clicking or scraping
noises, the drive will not power up and spin or possibly some type
of environmental issue like water or fire damage.
Realistically,
how long do these recoveries usually take? and what is your success
rate?
Logical recoveries
require a FREE evaluation that usually takes between 12-24 hours to
complete from the time we receive the drive. Once completed you will
be presented with the results of this evaluation and a cost to actually
complete the recovery work. You will never be charged for work you
do not approve.
Physical recoveries
will need to be evaluated in our Class 100 Clean room, There is a
small evaluation fee for this process and it can require 2-5 days
to complete. Once completed you will receive the detailed results
of your evaluation with a firm cost to complete the repair work. Once
again you will never be charged for work you do not approve.
As with any type
of data recovery work success is never guaranteed. However, we pride
ourselves on a very high rate of success. Over 90% of the hard drives
we work on are successfully recovered and we always stand behind our
work. We have some of the best technicians in the world and with over
20 years of experience. We are the top of the food chain in the data
recovery business, if we can't recover it nobody can!
Will
I be charged for an unsuccessful recovery attempt?
No, you will never
be charged for a recovery unless we are successful and receive your
written approval to proceed with the recovery. There are however some
cases that require an initial diagnostics fee. These are mostly confined
to physically damaged hard drives, RAID arrays or very large database
evaluations. You would be informed of this cost in your initial consultation.
There will NEVER be any hidden fees.
What
about security, is my information and data kept confidential?
Absolutely, any
contact information or data you send to us will be kept strictly confidential.
We write a 100% non-disclosure agreement into our Submission forms.
However if you would like us to sign a non-disclosure agreement that
you provide this is never a problem. Any data transferred via FTP
is handled with 128bit SSL encryption. Your privacy is our top priority.
Do
you provide phone support?
No, while
there is always someone waiting to take your call and help you through
the recovery process. We do not offer technical phone support with
the intent of solving your issues or walking you through a recovery
via phone. We provide FREE consultation concerning how to best recover
your data. We will also help you solve logistic issues or answer questions
concerning a recovery we are working on or have completed for you.
Ok,
I want to send you my hard drive, how do I get started?
The procedure
is very simple, first print out and complete the Submission
Forms. Then package the hard drive or media as if you
were packaging glass, its best to use an anti-static bag if you have
one at your disposal. Then simply ship the media to our lab. The shipping
address is located in the top right corner of the submission forms.
